Equity. Inclusion. Diversity. Collaboration. Solution Focused.

How do we do it?

What do we mean by
Patient Family Engagement?

Engagement is the process of working collaboratively with and through groups of people who share similar situations, concerns, or challenges to address issues affecting the well-being of those people. Meaningful engagement serves as a powerful vehicle for bringing about system and behavioral changes that improve the health of the community and its members [including patients and their family caregivers].

Engagement often involves partnerships and coalitions that help mobilize resources and influence systems, change relationships, and serve as catalysts for changing policies, programs, and practices Shifting toward meaningful engagement requires us to elevate community voices, leaning into shared-power and equitable decision-making. We approach all engagement with cultural humility, inclusion, and transparency.

“It is only with community engagement that it is possible to achieve and accelerate progress toward the goal of health equity through transformed systems for health.”

National Academy of Medicine, 2022

News & Notes

“Patient and family caregiver engagement is not something to be sprinkled on a cake after it is baked. We bake their perspectives throughout our cake - making a funfetti cake.”
